It all started when he heard a jazz drummer practicing in his garage in Detroit at the age of nine, music was to become his life's passion. Mick Addington started his musical career by playing at parites and dances in Junior High and began playing in clubs in Detroit by the age of 16. He started out with old school rock (Led Zepplin, AC/DC, Black Sabbath), but discovered the "new wave" bands like Duran Duran and INXS in the mid 80's and bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots and Rage Against the Machine in the 90's. He perfomed live and in the studio with some prominent bands in the local Detroit scene, and recorded a solo project in the mid 90's.

After taking a break from the music scene and moving to the DFW area in 2008, he decided to return to his passion and worked with a couple of other cover bands before finding the other members and forming Lithium. Lithium was born out of the pure love for the music of that decade and desire to do a true tribute to the decade that inspired him.
